Ever since we bought the house as a ruin we planned to install our own power supply, but until this year we were not permitted to connect a solar or wind generated power source to the grid, so we just used ESB, the standard mains electric supply. Now the rules have been changed and we can install our own generation.
We chose to ground-mount the panels - we've got enough room! To stop them blowing away in the 100+ km/h winds we doubled the usual concrete base to 5 cubic metres of concrete (not so eco-friendly, but that's life out here...)
