Summer 2003 - The Irish Farm House...
The Building Work Starts!

This was the front of the house when we first saw it:

and it has looked the same until today...

Finally the diggers arrived - after weeks of phoning people and being delayed endlessly, the work has started!
First job - clear all the muddy soil from around the house so the land is level and well drained. Then the foundations for the new parts can be laid and the septic tank and underground electric ducts can be put in and things will start moving. Apparently the field drains are dug very wide and shallow so that if animals fall into them they can get out - guess it will be useful when we stagger back from the pub!
Something between forty and sixty tonnes of stone is being laid on the newly cleared area to the back of the house, and to fix up the track, soon it will be possible to drive a normal car up to the house (lucky we got the Land Rover while we still had a good excuse!)
And round the back of the house...

We've now got a caravan on site temporarily for extra accommodation, and the Land Rover towed out a trailer full of building equipment, including a flat-packed concrete mixer (!) and the flat-packed garden shed which will become our non-suite bathroom facilities...

August 2003 - Tony has had to go to Liberia for a fortnight's work:
But Carol remains to install the septic tank and borehole! Next Page...
