The Salang Tunnel. This photo taken inside the entrance of the Salang Pass atapprox 3500m altitude. The tunnel was blown up during the civil war following the Russian withdrawal. This section near the entrance had collapsed and was still being cleared of explosives and rubble. The antenna in the photo is for the car mounted HF radio (Codan) which allows communications between vehicles and the office throughout Afghanistan.
