Winter 2007 - The Heat Pump goes in

(back to Spring 2006)

(back to the main caroltony website)

While we were installing the Heat-Pump we also managed to fit in a trip to Morocco in our new car which we are going to use as a camper; the trip is here

The Heat-Pump uses Geothermal energy to heat the house - what this actually means is either:

(1) - it uses magic to suck heat from a cold field to make the house warm!

(2) - it takes 1 degree of heat from the geothermal energy in the field and like a reverse refrigerator it converts this into 20 degrees (celsius) of heat to keep the underfloor heating warm - if you want any more detail then look on google!

Outside the house the coils go into the field - they will suck 1 degree out of the field and convert it to hot water inside the house, giving us underfloor heating & showers etc without using much electricity, and eventually we'll get a wind-turbine set up to power the system, then we'll be using no mains electricity at all for our heating...

Kevin's digger once more in action!

Kevin Pipe Laying

The stones came up from underground as Kevin excavated the trench for the pipes, so we've put them in 2 stone rows each side of the coils, as a marking to avoid accidentally digging through the pipes in the field (that would be a very expensive mistake to make!)

And inside...

Putting in the pipes for the undrefloor heating;

And the concrete goes on to seal the floor:

And now the internal walls can finally start going up: This wall has a curve in it so it has to befaced with ply to give it the right shape...

Meanwhile...

the old cowshed has been completed and we've moved from the Horsebox to the Shed...

So the shed looked like this originally:

To this, as the roof is going on last year:

And now it's finally ready to be lived in:

And inside it's rather more comfortable than it used to be:

Tony went flying at Inch with some of the other paraglider pilots from the South West - it's a sandy peninsular where, in the right wind, we'd hoped to fly along the dunes, but the wind wasn't right...

wrong wind

But then we went back a few weeks later, and it was right!
