Spring 2006, From Cowshed to Home...

After a bit of a break we got back to Coom to get the cowshed conversion completed in March. Whilst it's sometimes been lovely sunny weather, it's also been snowing and we've had a few days of non-stop howling gales from the North... only a small bit of the shed roof actually blew off, so that's good! When we've got the Cowshed finished it'll give us a bit more living space until we finish the main house - the Horsebox is comfortable but a bit cramped for two people long-term.

Tony managed a brief bit of flying before the winds got up too much - down from the mountain behind the house to land in the garden is almost half a km vertically which isn't bad, although the sheep weren't impressed.

The Cow Shed now has a stove installed, and is almost ready for plastering - most of the electrics are in & the underfloor heating has been tested (the power cable reel will never be the same after putting full power through it...)

May 2006 - Carol has gone to Uganda to set up an emergency programme for Mercy Corps - the (non religious!) NGO which she is now working for, while Tony stays behind to get on with the construction work... So here is where she is: (ignore the wrong date set on the camera)

Although we started off without even the borehole that they have above, we are now getting relatively sophisticated: We've now plumbed in the indoor toilet & shower to replace the garden shed which we had been using until now (luxury!) and as soon as the plastering is finished we'll be moving into the Cowshed as our first solid home while we continue to work on the main house across the yard. (Later the Cowshed will be the spare room when we are able to tempt visitors out to West Cork!)

Oh, and meanwhile one of the sheep we have as lawnmowers has had an unexpected lamb - not sure what you are supposed to do with lambs, but this one seems to be doing fine so I guess mum knows best!

But then we had to go off to work again - Lebanon for both of us, but different bits...

And Now Tony's in Goma (Congo DRC) for a month...
