Autumn 2003 -

...everything but the house!

Oct 2003 - we've now got all the utilities in, the telephone line was the last to come, requiring three telegraph poles to be brought to connect us - and after a day of telephone the local exchange has gone down... The weather has been rather extreme here for the last few days - the Horsebox rocks on its suspension all night long, but it is snug and comfortable, and we now have hot water, mains electricity and the stereo set up - what more could be required?

Sunday is of course fixing the car and mowing the lawn day - Tony has Hammerited the underside of the Land Rover (and himself!) while the new petrol strimmer is in action taking on the fields...

Whilst inside...

The shed is working well as a temporary bathroom and we now have the borehole working so we have our own well water on tap, hot shower, flushing toilet and washing machine / tumble drier operational - everything but the house itself which still waits for the builders, although we have had some temporary repairs done to the roof and had a damaged chimney temporarily removed before it fell off.

In order to have somwhere to put all the stuff which is currently in the house (Washing machine, fridge-freezer, about a hundred different power tools, piles of wood, scaffolding, water pipe, copper plumbing pipe, bits from the car etc) we will have to build a store while the building work is going on. So, next plan is to use the stone gable-ends which are still standing of a cowshed behind the house, and build up the missing bits with straw-bales. Keep watching this space for progress reports!

Halloween: 0100 in the morning of 31st Oct, the solar storm brought astonishing Aurora Borealis to South West Ireland - far further south than it could normally be seen: Here it lights the sky above the horsebox at 1am with Purple and Red;
