Truck loading rubble inside the Salang Tunnel. The two kilometre long tunnel was mined and blown up during the civil war following the withdrawal of the Russian forces. Two NGOs, ACTED and Halo Trust were clearing the tunnel which is at 3.5 km altitude in the Hindu Kush mountains and provides the main route between North Afghanistan and Kabul.
